Danielle Collins recently released a strongly worded "privacy" statement amidst ongoing inquiries regarding her decision to reverse her retirement and her diagnosis of endometriosis. At the beginning of 2024, Collins announced that she would retire from professional tennis after the 2024 season to focus on personal matters and starting a family.
However, in October 2024, Collins reversed her retirement decision and opted to continue competing in 2025. She most recently began her campaign at the 2025 Australian Open, a Grand Slam tournament where her best result was finishing as the runner-up in 2022, losing to Ashleigh Barty in the final.
Collins began her Melbourne Major campaign by defeating qualifier Daria Snigur 7-6(4), 6-3 in the first round. Following her victory, she took to social media and expressed her gratitude for the support she received while facing "personal and health challenges."
“So excited to be moving into the second round 💪🏻 💪🏻 . I want to take some time to say thank you to everyone who has been so supportive the last few weeks and months while I have been navigating through my own personal and health challenges," Danielle Collins wrote
Collins mentioned that she has been open about her health problems and her retirement reversal but she wants people and media to provide her with privacy
“While I have been really open about the challenges relating to my endometriosis and starting a family, moving forward I am kindly asking for privacy while I continue to process and work through everything. At this point, I feel I have shared enough information around my health challenges for my fans, the media, and my colleagues to understand the reasons why I have chosen to extend my career for now and continue to work," she added.
The former World No.7 also stated that she doesn't want the media or anybody else to speculate about her health conditions.
“I will continue to take things one step at a time. Many people have kindly offered advice to me in regards to different fertility suggestions, adoption, etc. and while the caring nature around these suggestions are appreciated in many ways, I am asking for privacy and a pause on these discussions as I navigate the next few months," Danielle Collins continued.
Danielle Collins stated that she highlighted her struggles with endometriosis to raise awareness and support other women facing similar challenges.
“I would also ask the media to consider this request for privacy when asking additional questions and publishing stories. Again, I’ve been happy to be open about my journey up until this point . I certainly hope it can help other women in similar situations feel like they are not alone, but for the foreseeable future, I am asking for PRIVACY please. Thanks everyone 🙏 ," Danielle Collins added.
Before competing at the 2025 Australian Open, Danielle Collins participated in the Adelaide International, where she was defeated by Ons Jabeur 6-7(6), 2-6 in the first round.
