Danielle Collins makes her frustrations clear with Taylor Fritz comparison over LA wildfire donation

Danielle Collins openly voiced her frustration after being criticized in comparison to Taylor Fritz, who pledged part of his 2025 Australian Open prize money to support victims of the Los Angeles wildfire. She made it clear that she also contributes to such causes but chooses not to "boast" about her efforts.

Fritz announced after his dominant second-round win over Cristian Garin that he would donate the $82,931 prize money from his opening-round victory against Jenson Brooksby to support the victims.

On the same day, Collins, who faced heckling from the Australian crowd after defeating Destanee Aiava, made a cheeky remark about using her prize money for a vacation with her team if she were to lose.

An Instagram account later stirred controversy by posting a reel featuring the American duo, giving viewers two options and asking them to choose their idol, essentially mocking Collins. She, however, didn’t hold back and fired back at the post immediately.

The 31-year-old commented:

"What Taylor is doing for people in California is truly so kind-hearted and meaningful. I can deeply empathize with the people who are suffering in California and I do seek to help those who are in need."

"I am a charitable person, but I’ve tended to shy away from boasting about the thousands of hours I dedicate helping people or how much money I spend helping those in need. Many of my close family members and friends in Florida just lost their homes due to the major hurricane that nearly wiped out our area. I am currently rebuilding much of my home," she added.

Danielle Collins continued:

"The most important thing is about truly helping people, that’s it. That’s what I’ve been focusing on. I encourage you and others to consider how you can truly help those in need, instead of judging people who prefer not to boast about charitable acts."

Danielle Collins began her 2025 Australian Open campaign with a strong 7-6(4), 6-3 win over Daria Snigur. She followed it up with a hard-fought 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-2 victory against Destanee Aiava, securing her spot in the third round.

Collins will face fellow American Madison Keys next, with both aiming to advance to the second week of the first Grand Slam of the year. The duo have clashed three times before on the WTA Tour, with Keys leading their head-to-head 2-1.

Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz will face Gael Monfils as both players continue their quest for a maiden Major. Fritz came close to achieving this milestone at last year’s US Open, where he reached the final but fell to Jannik Sinner.
