Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey recently commended Danielle Collins for reaching the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships in what is to be her final season. He described the World No. 11 as this year's "one of the secretly great stories."
At this year's Grasscourt Major, Collins is seeded 11th and kicked off her campaign by defeating Clara Tauson 6-3, 7-6(4) in the first round and then overcame qualifier Dalma Galfi 6-3, 6-4 in the second round.
In the third round, Collins defeated 20th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-4, 6-4 to secure her spot in the fourth round, where she will face 31st seed Barbora Krejcikova.
Danielle Collins, who has announced that she will be retiring after this season to focus on family and motherhood, is having a standout year in her career. She claimed her first WTA 1000 title at the 2024 Miami Open by defeating Elena Rybakina 7-5, 6-3 in the final. Following this victory, she also won the Charleston Open by defeating Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-1 in the championship match.
The former World No. 7 has also been selected to represent Team USA in tennis in the singles and doubles events at the 2024 Paris Olympics alongside Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Emma Navarro.
Reacting to her success at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships as well as her victories overall this year, American actor Matthew McConaughey took to social media to praise Danielle Collins. He described Collins "one of the secretly great stories" of 2024 and a major proof of "1st time’s the last" mental state.

McConaughey, who is a big tennis fan, has been seen attending various tennis matches. He was even present in Novak Djokovic's player box during the 2023 US Open where the Serb had secured his fourth US Open title and 24th Grand Slam title by defeating Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3 in the final.

Danielle Collins will take on the 31st seed, Barbora Krejcikova, in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
Krejcikova began her campaign at SW19 by defeating Veronika Kudermetova 7-6(4), 6-7(1), 7-5 in the first round. She then defeated American qualifier Katie Volynets in the second round 7-6(6), 7-6(5).
The World No. 32 secured her spot in the fourth round after her third-round opponent, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, had to withdraw from their match in the second set due to lower back issues.
Danielle Collins and Barbora Krejcikova have faced each other only once on the WTA Tour, with Krejcikova winning their previous encounter in the semifinals of the 2023 San Diego Open. The Czech won the match 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the final where she ultimately defeated Sofia Kenin to claim the title.
