Danielle Collins opened up about her decision to postpone her retirement as fertility concerns continue to impede her dream. The American said that she had 'mixed emotions' about this ordeal.

Collins had announced that she would be hanging up her racket after the end of the 2024 season in order to achieve her dream of starting a family. Her tennis flourished this year as she managed to climb back into the Top 10 of the WTA rankings and win her first WTA 1000 title at the Miami Open.

After failing to qualify for the WTA Finals in Riyadh, it seemed that the American's tennis career had come to a close. However, fate had other plans, in a surprising turn of events, the 30-year-old took to Instagram on October 17 to announce that she had decided to continue her career in 2025 since her lingering health issues had hampered her 'ultimate dream', starting a family.

The American joined Sky Sports for a conversation where she opened up about her ordeal.

"Yeah, definitely some mixed emotions," Danielle Collins said.

Collins then talked about how the past few weeks of her life had been challenging and took her some time to assess the situation.

"You know this past couple of weeks, going through all of those appointments and just trying to work through all of the information that you get during that process, it's been hard at times."

The American also expressed gratitude over the fact that she had tennis to look forward to after her dream of starting a family took a detour.

"But while I was going through that process, I'm also thinking how lucky am I that I have the option to be able to have a career to fall back on because I couldn't imagine not having gone through those appointments and understanding the challenges that might come along with this experience and then not having my career."
