Danielle Collins will finish her tennis career at the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Malaga, Spain. The last leg of the tournament will be held from November 13 to 20, a week after the 2024 WTA Finals.
Collins is playing her last year as a professional tennis player in the WTA Tour. After the 2024 Australian Open, the American announced that she would hang up her racket at the end of the year, citing two chronic health conditions, rheumatoid arthritis and endometriosis, which sped up her decision to retire.
The last tournament of the 30-year-old's career will be the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, to be played from November 13 to 20. Collins will be part of Team USA during the tournament's knockout phase alongside Jessica Pegula, Caroline Dolehide, Peyton Stearns, and Taylor Townsend. Lindsay Davenport will captain the team, which will miss notable stars, Coco Gauff and Emma Navarro.
USA will face Slovakia in the first round of the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup Finals on November 14. Anna Karolína Schmiedlová, Rebecca Šramková, Viktória Hrunčáková, Renáta Jamrichová, and Tereza Mihalíková will compete for Slovakia. The winner of the three-match tie will face fourth-seed Australia in the quarterfinals.
Danielle Collins in contention to qualify for WTA Finals 2024
Before the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, Danielle Collins could play at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The American is currently placed eighth in the race to the WTA Finals with 3,178 points. She attained the position after a remarkable season that pushed many in the tennis world to call on her to reconsider her retirement decision.
Collins' first notable performance this year came at the Qatar Open, where she reached the quarterfinals. She then went on a 15-match winning streak, starting at the Miami Open and ending at the Madrid Open. The former Australian Open finalist won her maiden WTA 1000 title in Miami and picked her fourth tour-level title at the WTA 500 Charleston Open.
Her winning streak came to an end in the fourth round of the Madrid Open. Since then, Collins has struggled with form and consistency on the tour. Apart from a runner-up finish at the WTA 500 Strasbourg Open, she has not been able to muster big results and is currently on a four-match losing streak.
