“Death, taxes and women being compared to male players” - Fans enraged as Chris Evert opines Karolina Muchova plays like a ‘guy’ after US Open 2R win

Chris Evert's comments that Karolina Muchova played like a 'guy' during the Czech's second-round match against Naomi Osaka at the 2024 US Open have enraged fans. The American's remarks haven't sat well with the fans who felt the comparisons were unnecessary.

Muchova is currently competing at the New York Major and has been in fine form so far, ousting Katie Voleynets 6-3, 7-5 in the opening round on August 27 and Naomi Osaka 6-3, 7-6(5) in the second on August 30.

Chris Evert, who provided commentary for the second-round match between Muchova and Osaka, remarked that Karolina Muchova played like a 'guy' and compared men's service and volleys to the women's. She also said that their movements were a tad better than the women players.

Fans were furious at the American legend's comments and took to X (formerly Twitter). One fan said how women's tennis being compared to men's tennis had become inevitable.

"Death taxes and women being compared to male tennis players. We will never be free," one fan said.

Another fan said that they muted their television.

"Geez, I literally muted the tv," another fan said.

"Awful commentary…. Please …why do we always get compared to the guys…," a fan said.

"What commentators COULD say: 'Muchova is amazing, talented, has the best volleys on tour, always puts on a show' What commentators DO say: 'Men are better at tennis than women are'," a fan said.

"The male Sky Sports commentator as well mentioning her viral behind the back shot from R1 and saying Alcaraz has done that before. USO put them side by side on their IG page instead of just uploading her full shot (they did later). Why do we keep comparing to men?" another fan said.

"Bruh...Ben shelton as well in his press conference said, when asked a question about why Coco Gauff is popular, he said she 'Has so many qualities out there that resemble a male player' like can't you just compliment a woman without comparing her to a man? what's the point?" a fan said.

Karolina Muchova will play Anastasia Potapova in the third round of the 2024 US Open on August 31.

Chris Evert commented on Naomi Osaka's outfit for the 2024 US Open during her second-round match against Karolina Muchova, opining that the outfit suited her Japanese culture. Osaka's custom-made Nike outfit was the talk of the town when she appeared in it at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Evert said that she loved the Japanese outfit and felt that it respected her country's culture.

“I like the dress… it suits her, it suits the Japanese culture,” Chris Evert said.

These comments also received flak from the fans who found the American's comment to be racist.
