Denis Shapovalov’s girlfriend Mirjam Bjorklund has made a successful transition from hardcourt to clay. Bjorklund has been in good form of late, and her most recent victory, at the Copa Colsanitas (a WTA 250 event in Bogota), is another feather in her cap.
On Tuesday, April 4, the Swede pulled off a spectacular upset over the tournament’s top seed Elise Mertens in the opening round.
Bjorklund was off to a great start, pocketing the first set 6-1. Mertens, however, managed to get her way back into the match by snatching the second set 4-6.
Lasting two hours and 43 minutes, the contest eventually went to a deciding tiebreak. Mirjam Bjorklund held her nerve there to dismiss the World No. 29 with a final scoreline of 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (3).

Denis Shapovalov was impressed by the victory, and he lauded his girlfriend with a clapping hand emoji on an Instagram post by the WTA.
Mirjam Bjorklund recently put in another notable performance, at the Miami Open. The Swede, who had never made it to the main draw of a WTA 1000 event before, not only survived the qualifiers but also dismissed Jasmine Paolini in the opening round of the tournament.
Bjorklund eventually fell to 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in the Round of 64.
At the ongoing WTA 250 in Bogota, Bjorklund is through to the Round of 16. She is next scheduled for a clash against Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek, whom she beat in the final qualifying round of the Miami Open.

Denis Shapovalov and Mirjam Bjorklund have been in a relationship since 2019. The tennis couple have never shied away from expressing their love publicly, regularly dedicating posts to each other on social media.
Bjorklund recently opened up about her chemistry with the Canadian. She stated that she trusts Shapovalov when it comes to giving her sporting advice. The Swede, however, insisted that Shapovalov is present at her tennis matches only as a supportive boyfriend and nothing more.
"I really trust him when he tells me things and when he coaches me, but he’s very keen on the fact that he’s not my coach," she said. "He’s just my boyfriend and supporting [me] in those moments, but I do really appreciate that."
Bjorklund further stated that the pair always found ways to support each other and maintain a positive vibe regardless of their on-court results.
"We always find a way to support each other and have a good time and that can definitely help if things are not going the way you want on court," she said.
