Amanda Anisimova hasn't had the best couple of weeks, but the American is ready to move toward her next tournament. She shared a social media post explaining why she had to withdraw from this year's edition of the WTA Hobart event.
The player looked forward to making a statement at the beginning of the year, but a cold prevented her from progressing at the tournament. Nevertheless, the start of the new season will provide her plenty of opportunities to win major tournaments over the year.
Anisimova shared an Instagram story depicting her resting after the tournament while informing her fans about her health and upcoming schedule. She will return to the tennis court during the 2025 edition of the Australian Open.
Anisimova was scheduled to play against Elina Avanesian today in the quarterfinals of this year's Hobart International tournament. Her withdrawal allowed Avanesian to advance to the semifinals. Anisimova will still take home 54 WTA ranking points.
Amanda Anisimova prepares for the Australian Open
Even if Hobart International is now in the rearview mirror, Amanda Anisimova has to prepare for the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. The Australian Open first round will begin on January 12. The women's final is scheduled for January 25, with the best players in the WTA fighting for a spot.
Anisimova is scheduled to face María Lourdes Carlé in the first round of the Australian Open. If the American player manages to survive her first matches in Melbourne, she could face Iga Swiatek. Victoria Azarenka is also one of Anisimova's potential opponents when it comes to the highly-anticipated tournament.
The last few months of last season weren't ideal for Anisimova, but the player can bounce back in 2025. After losing to Qinwen Zheng in the first round of the U.S. Open, Anisimova failed to reach a quarterfinal through the end of the year. The American's recent streak could change in this year's Australian Open.
Amanda Anisimova reached the fourth round of the Australian Open last year. Unfortunately, the American had to face Aryna Sabalenka for a pass to the quarterfinals, with the eventual champion beating Anisimova in two sets. Fans will soon discover if this year will be different for the WTA star.
