Australian tennis player Daria Saville recently started a petition calling for the modernization of the copyright policies regarding sharing match footage on social media. Daria Kasatkina concurred with the Aussie's suggestion. Saville and Kasatkina criticized the Grand Slams for having strict copyright policies.
Saville lamented that Grand Slams like Wimbledon do not allow players and fans to share footage of the matches on their social media as it is an infringement of copyright policy. She stated in her petition that outdated copyright laws are denying athletes an opportunity to self-promote. Saville also claimed that these archaic laws inhibit the growth of the game. The Aussie urged fans to join her in this fight and sign her petition on Change.org.
Saville explained the reason behind the need for change in a video. Citing the example of fans sharing their outfits for Wimbledon, the Aussie said that fans were allowed to share highlights of their day but players were not allowed to do so, which in her view was unjust to the players.
"I want justice for the tennis girlies. Because of copyright rules we are not allowed to post any footage of us competing and yes I am salty because these girls are showing their highlight of the day which is fashion but us tennis girlies are left with nothing," Daria Saville said.
Daria Kasatkina, who runs a YouTube channel called 'What the Vlog', also agreed with Saville's assessment of the copyright policy. The Russian said that these laws did not make any sense and wrote:
"Justice for Dashkent! Tbh those policies doesn’t make any sense."
Daria Kasatkina jokes about getting blocked due to copyright policy
Daria Kasatkina appeared on the 'Tennis Channel' after her second-round win at Wimbledon against Yuriko Miyazaki, where she talked about her impressive form and also about her YouTube channel 'What the Vlog'.
The presenter asked her about what she would like to ask Martina Navratilova (who was also present during the interview) for her channel. The Russian joked that she would love to know about Navratilova's favorite cocktail.
The American revealed her favorite drink was 'something with tequila' or 'Cosmopolitan'. The presenter then intervened, stating that Kasatkina missed an opportunity to record Navratilova's answer for her vlog. The host, however, reassured her that the Tennis Channel would send her the footage to be included in the vlog.
"We’ll send you the clip and you can edit it in. We got you, Tennis Channel’s got you," the host said.
Kasatkina hilariously asked him not to block the video afterward due to copyright infringement.
"But don’t block it after. I know you guys, how you do it with the copyright and stuff," she joked.
Daria Kasatkina's Wimbledon campaign ended in the third round after a close defeat to Paula Badosa.
