Novak Djokovic's startling revelation about being poisoned in Australia amid his deportation saga in 2022 has sparked polarizing reactions from fans. While some felt that Djokovic sounded like a conspiracist, others sympathized with him.

Djokovic was detained in a hotel in Melbourne after being held back at the airport for not having taken the COVID-19 vaccine. During a recent interview with GQ, he claimed that he had been poisoned during his stay at the hotel with his body showing high levels of lead and mercury upon his return home. He said:

“I had some health issues. And I realized that in that hotel in Melbourne I was fed with some food that poisoned me.

“Well, I had some discoveries when I came back to Serbia. I never told this to anybody publicly, but discoveries that I was, I had a really high level of heavy metal. Heavy metal. I had the lead, very high level of lead and mercury.”

Fans were baffled by this surprising accusation and took to X to comment on the situation. One fan dubbed Djokovic as the 'Donald Trump' of tennis.

However, another fan felt that it was indeed a conspiracy to keep the 37-year-old behind in the Grand Slam race.

"They f*cked with him, and it backfired. Everything done to stop him getting ahead in the slam count, and he still came out on top," the fan opined.

Here are some other reactions from tennis fans. Up first, those who felt the Serb was not in the right.

"I’m sorry but Djokovic is starting to sound like a conspiracist," a fan said.
"Unsurprisingly this is complete nonsense from Djokovic," a fan stated.

Here are some reactions from those in the former World No. 1's favor.

"They didn't expect Novak to resume playing Tennis after Australia 2022. That would have left him on 20 slams," a fan felt.

"I remember Djokovic's mother tearfully speaking about how the place where her son was held was unsanitary, but I am shocked to hear that mercury and other substances were mixed into the water," a fan recollected.

The Serb also explicitly stated that he was not deported due to being unvaccinated or trying to force his way into the Happy Slam.

Continuing his thoughts in the same interview with GQ, Novak Djokovic also revealed how a simple flu troubled him a lot once he returned home from Melbourne and needed emergency treatment at his home.

“Yeah, very sick. It was like the flu, just a simple flu. But when it was days after that a simple flu took me down so much, I had an emergency medical team treat me at home. I had that several times and then I had to do toxicology [tests].”

However, the 37-year-old overcame his trauma and made a triumphant return to Australia the following year by clinching his 22nd Grand Slam and an unprecedented 10th title in Melbourne. He is on a quest to make another record at the Melbourne Major as he gears up to kick off his campaign for a record-breaking 25th Major.
