Novak Djokovic opens up about Nick Kyrgios' US Open 2024 claim
Since October 2022, Nick Kyrgios has played one official singles match on the tour. He has suffered from knee and wrist injuries during his period on the sidelines. The Australian even took up broadcasting roles this year.
During the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Kyrgios practiced on the grass courts with his friend Novak Djokovic. It was a successful session where the Serb claimed his Australian counterpart was hitting the ball as 'good as ever'.
After his win in the Wimbledon semifinal against Lorenzo Musetti, Djokovic told the media:
“He [Kyrgios] hit a really good serve, and he said, ‘Well, I might come back at the U.S. Open.’ So I don’t know if he was joking about it or not... But let me tell you, he’s hitting the ball as good as ever, really.”
“I think everyone in tennis hopes he can come back quickly,” Djokovic said, “because we definitely need him on the tour,” the Serb added.
It is unlikely that the 29-year-old will make his return to the tour at the upcoming US Open in the singles event but he has hinted at making a comeback in the doubles event.
