Madison Keys pulled off a stunning victory over Elena Rybakina to reach the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open. Fans expressed frustration and disappointment over the Kazakh's loss, with many casting doubt on her prospects of future success in the sport.

Rybakina and Keys engaged in a closely contested battle in the fourth round of the Australian Open, with the American clinching the opening set 6-3. Although the World No. 7 raised her level to dominate the second set and force a decider, Keys eventually claimed an impressive 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory after a one-hour and 49-minute battle.

The loss marked another missed opportunity to win her second Grand Slam title for the Kazakh, who hasn't reached the quarterfinals of a hardcourt Slam since her loss to Aryna Sabalenka in the 2023 Australian Open final.

Tennis fans were quick to voice their dismay over Elena Rybakina's "pathetic" loss, with many of them claiming that the 25-year-old's days of winning Grand Slams were behind her and even labeling her a "fraud."

"She’s a fraud. never gonna win anything again," one fan commented.
"Rybakina is just not that girl," another fan chimed in.
"Elena Rybakina will probably never win any more slams... So so finished," a fan wrote.
"Rybakina will never win another Slam. Just pathetic mistakes on every big point. Never shows up when it matters. 4/13 on BPs and 7 of the ones she lost were on unforced errors," said another.

With Rybakina struggling with a back injury during her campaign at the Melbourne Slam, fans also lamented the Kazakh's recurring health issues at important tournaments.

"With Rybakina's current physical state I just don't see her making it through 7 rounds in a row at a Slam rn. Every time recently she picks up some kind of ailment along the way," one fan posted.
"Elena Rybakina - why she has physical issues all the time? hope she comes back stronger ....she shouldn't be a one slam wonder..," another fan wrote.

Others, meanwhile, commended Madison Keys on her "unreal" performance and backed the American to reach her second Grand Slam final.

"Unreal performance by Keys," a fan commented.
"Keys can make the final if she replicates her level from Set 1/3 imo," another fan chimed in.
"Keys found an incredible level in those last few games. She was blasting winners everywhere & just untouchable!" said yet another.

Following her win over Elena Rybakina, Madison Keys will square off against Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open. Svitolina claimed a commanding 6-4, 6-1 win over Veronika Kudermetova to book her place against the American.

Keys enjoys a 3-2 lead in her head-to-head record against the Ukrainian, including a dominant 6-2, 6-4 win in their latest meeting at the 2022 Adelaide International. However, Svitolina emerged victorious in their sole previous encounter at the Melbourne Slam in 2019, winning 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.

The winner of the match between Madison Keys and Elina Svitolina will likely face Iga Swiatek or Emma Navarro in the semifinals of the Australian Open.
