Elina Svitolina: "It is tough for us for sure to be apart from Skai"
Elina Svitolina laid bare the difficulty of leaving their daughter Skai home as the tennis power couple was away on tour, in an interview with Roland-Garros.
She said that it was important for Skai to have a routine, while she was taken care of by her and Gael Monfils' mothers at home. She added that the two try to see her as soon as the tournament concludes.
“It is tough for us for sure to be apart from her, but I think it’s important that she has her routines at home, she has two grandmothers taking care of her. As soon as we’re done, we easily can go back, it’s a short flight and we’re there. We also try to balance it and see how she feels and how we feel, so it’s a family decision," Svitolina said.
The Ukrainian stated that it was tough to travel and be away from her daughter, especially when results did not go her way.
"It’s tougher now than it was before for me to travel. When you don’t have the results that you want, it’s difficult because you feel like you wish you could be at home with Skai. But this is a choice that you have to make,” she said.
After the conclusion of her Wimbledon campaign, Elina Svitolina will gear up for her next big challenge at the Paris Olympics.
