Tennis fans recently criticized a WTA photographer for intruding on Iga Swiatek's leisurely swimming session. Swiatek is currently in Sydney to participate in the 2025 United Cup.
Swiatek wrapped up her 2024 season after competing at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. She then took part in the 2024 World Tennis League, an exhibition tournament, where she teamed up with Paula Badosa, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Alexander Shevchenko for Team Eagles.
Since then, the former World No.1 has travelled to Australia to kick off her 2025 season. She will represent Poland at the United Cup and follow it up with the Australia Open.
Recently, Iga Swiatek took a break from training and relaxed by enjoying a swim with her Polish teammates. A photo of Swiatek lounging on an inflatable flamingo float from their swimming outing was shared by a WTA photographer.
The invasion of Swiatek's privacy by the photographer angered tennis fans, who took to social media to express their disapproval
One fan said that it was "embarrassing" for the photographer to be clicking the Pole's pictures as there are matches being played at the United Cup.
“Embarrassing. There were matches in UC . He's a wta photographer, but he chose to 📷 Iga," a fan posted.
Numerous fans criticized the photographer for neglecting other WTA matches and instead capturing Swiatek during her downtime away from the court.
“You don’t have a tennis match you could go to and take photos of…?" a fan wrote.
“Can anybody explain this to me how is it official part of job and what the hell is WTA doing letting him do whatever he wants like your world no1 is in different city playing different tournament which is official part of WTA but no he's creeping on someone Swiming," a fan posted.
“Weren't there other matches involving WTA players going on? Why was this man at the pool with the Poland team? Doesn't UC have their own photographers? Or at least people in charge of social media to report on excursions?" a fan wrote.
Here are some more fan reactions:
“This man needs to be locked up," a fan posted.
“CRINGEEE ASF FOR SPORT PHOTOGRAPHER!" a fan wrote.
“Official wta photographer posting this- i had enough of you man seriously…" a fan posted.
