Emma Navarro recently revealed what she was carrying in the mysterious red cup ahead of her quarterfinal match against Paula Badosa. The American triumphed over Badosa 6-2, 7-5.
Navarro reached Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre in a black hoodie and shorts but what caught everyone's eye was a red solo cup she was carrying. These cups are often used for drinking alcohol as they have lines denoting one, five, and twelve ounces.
The American carrying a 'party' cup right before a match drew reactions from Tennis Channel commentators, who discussed what could possibly be in the cup. After her quarterfinal win, the World No. 12 quelled all rumors and revealed that the cup had 'yogurt parfait'. She commented:
"It was a yogurt parfait guys!"
Navarro displayed formidable tennis during her win against Badosa. She was in command in the first set, winning it 6-2, with two breaks of serves. In the second set, the Spaniard came back strongly as she got a 5-1 and was closing in to level the match. But Navarro produced a strong comeback, winning six games in a row to win the set, the match, and a spot in the semifinals.
Emma Navarro credits coach Peter Ayers and father Ben after reaching the semifinals at the 2024 US Open
Emma Navarro thanked her coach Peter Ayers and father Ben Navarro for their support after reaching her maiden semifinal at the 2024 US Open. The American looked back on the journey with her long-time coach and thanked him for his dedication.
"It means so much to me. My coach and I have been together since I was 14 or 15. It’s been 8 years now. We’ve done a lot of great work together. Thank you for everything you do, your dedication, all the time you put into this journey, and making me into the player I am,” Navarro said.
The World No. 12 also thanked her billionaire father Ben for sensing her talent and charting the tennis journey for her.
“I wanna also thank my dad. I think he saw a vision from the time I was really young. He knew maybe I was a bit ADHD or something to be a sitting in a class room or a 9 to 5. He saw something in me from a young age. So thanks dad for sending me on this journey,” she said.
Now, Navarro has a task cut out for her as she will face World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka for a place in the US Open final.
