World No. 8 Emma Navarro sat down with the press ahead of the 2025 Australian Open and opened up on the growth American tennis has witnessed in recent times. Navarro is one among five women, including Coco Gauff (3), Jessica Pegula (7), Danielle Collins (11), and Madison Keys (20) in the WTA Top 20 on the singles circuit.
On the men's side, Taylor Fritz took off last season, reaching the US Open and ATP Finals title clashes and peaking at World No. 4 for a career-high rank. The Americans began 2025 on a high note by taking home the United Cup glory, defeating Iga Swiatek-led Poland in the final.
Navarro wasn't a part of the winning contingent but revealed cheering her compatriots on while answering a Sportskeeda question in the press room at Melbourne Park on Sunday, January 12.
"It’s exciting I watched them win the United Cup a couple of weeks ago," Navarro said. "It’s really cool not only to see the other American players’ success but also just cheer it on and I got pretty into watching the United Cup and it was exciting. It’s great to see them doing well."
The 23-year-old hit with Coco Gauff to prepare for the Happy Slam:
"I practiced with Coco [Gauff] yesterday. It’s great to sort of have those companions of players that are from the same country. It’s nice to be able to cheer each other on."
Navarro has played two lead-up tournaments before the Australian Open suffering a Round-of-32 loss to Kimberly Birrell at Brisbane International and a quarterfinals setback against Liudmila Samsonova in Adelaide.
