Emma Navarro reveals the truth behind how she survived tough battle against Ons Jabeur in Australian Open 3R

Emma Navarro revealed the truth behind how she secured a win over Ons Jabeur in the third round of the 2025 Australian Open. This match was the second time that the two players had faced each other on the WTA Tour, with their first encounter occurring in the second round of the 2022 Charleston Open, where Jabeur emerged victorious. The Tunisian then went on to finish as the runner-up in the tournament, losing to Belinda Bencic in the final

Navarro is seeded eighth at the 2025 Melbourne Major and she kicked off her campaign by defeating compatriot Peyton Stearns 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 7-5 in the first round and she then secured a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Wang Xiyu in the second round. Most recently, the American overcame ninth seed Ons Jabeur 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 on the Margaret Court Arena to move to the fourth round of the tournament.

Following her win over Jabeur, during the post match on-court interview, Emma Navarro praised her opponent's performance and acknowledged the tough fight she put up.

“I love three sets. Yeah, I love tennis so much I can’t resist, I gotta play three sets. But yeah, I came out playing really well. Maybe she [Ons Jabeur] wasn’t playing her best and then she played a really great four games to get it back to 5–4 and a really good second set,” Navarro said.

Navarro pointed out that after losing the second set in the match, she maintained her self-belief, which ultimately helped her win the third set and clinch the match

“I just wanted to stick in there and keep believing in myself and know that if I put myself in the best position to do what I want to do then maybe I’ll come out on top and I was able to do that,” she added.

Prior to beginning her campaign at the 2025 Australian Open, Emma Navarro competed at the Brisbane International, where she suffered a defeat at the hands of Kimberly Birrell in the second round. She then went on to compete at the Adelaide International, where she defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round before bowing out to Liudmila Samsonova in the quarterfinals .

Emma Navarro will be facing the ninth seed, Daria Kasatkina, in the fourth round of the 2025 Australian Open. Reaching the fourth round is the is the best result that both the players have achieved at the Grand Slam tournament.

Navarro and Kasatkina have never competed against each other on the WTA Tour, making their upcoming match at the Melbourne Major, the first time that these two players will faces each other in a match,

Daria Kasatkina kicked off her 2025 season at the Brisbane International, where she was seeded third in the tournament and began her campaign in the second round after receiving a first round bye. In her opening match she defeated Peyton Stearns before falling to eventual runner-up Polina Kudermetova in the third round.

The Russian then moved on to the Adelaide International, where she secured victories against Olivia Gadecki and Emerson Jones in the first two rounds before being eliminated by Madison Keys in the quarterfinals

Currently, at the Australian Open, Daria Kasatkina defeated Viktoriya Tomova, Wang Yafan, and 24th seed Yulia Putintseva in the first three rounds to secure her a spot in the fourth round where she will go up against Emma Navarro .
