Emma Raducanu could only win a single game in a one-sided third-round loss to Iga Swiatek at the 2025 Australian Open. The Brit took responsibility for not performing at her best, ultimately leading to a crushing defeat.

On Saturday, January 18, what was expected to be a thriller was a one-sided rout between Swiatek and Raducanu. The 22-year-old faced a 1-6, 0-6 loss against the World No. 2, her joint worst defeat.

After the 70-minute match at Rod Laver Arena, Raducanu reflected on the thrashing during her post-match press conference. She believed the loss stemmed from her underperformance and the Pole's exceptional play.

"I think, it was a match - going into it, I knew I had to play really well when you're facing a top player. And I think today, credit to Iga, she played good tennis. But I think it was a little bit of her playing well and me not playing so well. So, that combination is probably not good and resulted in today," Emma Raducanu said.

The 2021 US Open champion noted that Swiatek's heavy spin, combined with the lively weather conditions, made the ball jump higher, adding another difficulty to the match. She further reiterated:

"Obviously, she's a great player, moves really well, and defends well. I just felt like certain aspects of my own game weren't necessarily firing."

Raducanu highlighted Swiatek's exceptional movement, defense, and ability to handle difficult situations, which made it difficult to find any rhythm during their match.

This was the fourth battle between Raducanu and Swiatek and the Pole has now won all four without dropping a set.

During her press conference after defeating Emma Raducanu, Iga Swiatek revealed her thoughts on the game.

"For sure, I felt great and felt like the ball was listening to me. So, I just stayed pretty loosened up, and by the end, I felt like all the tactics I wanted to implement were working, so I just kept going," Iga Swiatek said.

The Pole has now won seven of her eight matches this season with her only loss coming to Coco Gauff in the United Cup final.

Swiatek will now face a tricky test against lucky loser Eva Lys. The World No. 128 from Germany lost in the second round of qualifiers but pulled off an exceptional run to reach the fourth round of the main draw.
