Emma Raducanu has turned down an opportunity to represent Team Great Britain at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She was offered a wildcard as she is a Grand Slam champion, having won the 2021 US Open.
Andy Murray, Jack Draper, Dan Evans and Cameron Norrie are confirmed nominations in the men's singles field, while Katie Boulter is the sole nomination in the women's singles category.
In men's doubles, the pairing of Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski, and Andy Murray and Dan Evans are nominated. Katie Boulter-Heather Watson and Harriet Dart-Maia Lumsden are Team Great Britain's nominations in women's doubles.
Raducanu's decision to skip the Olympics is due to a frequent change in the surface from grass to clay, as told by LTA Olympic team leader Iain Bates. She also had two wrist surgeries in the past year and has maintained caution in switching surfaces too quickly. For this reason, the Brit also did not play in the 2024 French Open.
Murray, on the other hand, is gearing up for his fifth Olympic appearance. He previously won two singles Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016, and claimed a mixed doubles silver in 2012.
Emma Raducanu: "I always love representing my country"
Emma Raducanu expressed her intentions to play at the Olympics if the schedule suited her physical health back in January after her loss to Wang Yafan in the second round at the 2024 Australian Open.
Talking to the press, Raducanu said she wasn't sure if she would get a call-up, owing to her low ranking.
"I think I'm GB like number eight or something. No idea if I'll get the call-up for that (smiling). I guess we'll leave it to them to decide," Raducanu said.
The 2021 US Open champion said that she loved representing her country but would take a cautious approach in deciding whether to play or not due to her wrist surgeries.
"I mean, of course I always love representing my country, but that being said, I think because of the amount of niggles and the rehab process, I think whatever suits my schedule and my fitness the best is going to have to take priority, especially this year," Emma Raducanu said.
"For example, if there's a change in surface straightaway, too close in succession, I think I'd have to evaluate what I do. The most sensible thing for me is staying healthy. That's the priority for the year. I can't say either way. But my intention is good, I want to play," she added.
