With the 2025 season just weeks away, Emma Raducanu recently gave fans a glimpse of her off-season. She was seen donning a T-shirt with Nike's famous quote on Rafael Nadal’s retirement and his logo.
Emma Raducanu, who missed the majority of the 2023 season due to injuries that required surgery, returned to the WTA tour in January at the ASB Classic in Auckland. She went on to play in 14 tournaments on the WTA tour and represented Britain at the Billie Jean King Cup.
On Wednesday, the Lawn Tennis Association's X account (formerly Twitter) posted a picture of Emma Raducanu during a training session. She wore a white T-shirt with the Spaniard's raging bull logo on the back and the phrase “It only takes everything.” The quote was from Nike's tribute to Rafael Nadal ahead of his last tournament before retirement, the Davis Cup, in Malaga, Spain.
Ahead of the 2025 season, Raducanu has hired fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura to help her address her injury problems, which caused her to miss a few tournaments this year. She recently told the press that this new partnership will help her unlock her full athletic potential in tennis. The Btit also added that she is confident she can become one of the top athletes with the combined training approach she has with her new fitness coach and her coach, Nick Cavaday.
“I think he is going to help me just really explore how far I can go athletically,” said Raducanu. “It’s a big strength of mine that I have nowhere near fulfilled. I think I can become one of the best athletes out there in tennis and I’m just looking forward to seeing how much I can do. And I think he’s really going to help with that. The way I’m working with him and Nick [Cavaday, her coach], it’s a lot more integrated.”
Yutaka Nakamura has previously worked with Grand Slam champions Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka.
A look at the last time Emma Raducanu wore a Rafael Nadal-inspired shirt
Over the years, Emma Raducanu has consistently shown her admiration for Rafael Nadal. In 2022, ahead of her second-round US Open clash against Caroline Garcia, she wore a shirt featuring Nadal's raging bull logo. When asked about it by the press, she said:
"Rafa just embodies fight. That sort of energy, that's what I'm bringing in terms of energy. I think I've had a tough year, like it's no secret. It is all worth it just to go out on Centre Court and get a win like that. I, definitely, am very happy to be here and all the lessons that I've taken from the last year will only hold me in good stead for the future,"
Raducanu eventually lost the match against Garcia 6-3, 6-3. To date, the 22-year-old hasn't been able to replicate her 2021 US Open form.
The Brit, however, has produced some promising performances in 2024 that has helped her return to the Top 60 of the WTA rankings. She is currently 57th in the world.
