Emma Raducanu issued an amusing apology to her compatriot Katie Boulter as the former celebrated a hard-fought second-round victory at the 2025 Australian Open on Thursday. After securing her place in the third round, Raducanu delighted fans by playfully mimicking Boulter's signature finger-to-forehead celebration.

Raducanu commenced her Melbourne campaign by upsetting the 26th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2) in the first round. Following this, she faced Amanda Anisimova in the second round, overcoming a suspected lower back spasm to secure another straight-set victory.

This marked Raducanu's first time reaching the third round of the Australian Open, where she will take on second seed Iga Swiatek.

On January 16, 2025, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) shared a video on Instagram, which showcased Raducanu issuing a playful apology to Katie Boulter for borrowing her trademark celebration, saying:

"I'm very happy to have fought through that match today. It was a really difficult one. I even had to bring out Boultz's (pointing her finger to her forehead). So I'm sorry Boultz. You can probably have a word later. But looking forward to my next round. It's going to be a very big challenge. But yeah, I'm looking forward to it. Bye, thanks for the support."

22nd seed Katie Boulter's Australian Open campaign ended in disappointment as she was eliminated by Veronika Kudermetova 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-2 in the second round on January 16, 2025.

Emma Raducanu shared her thoughts on facing five-time Grand Slam singles champion Iga Swiatek in the third round at the 2025 Australian Open.

Speaking during her post-match on-court interview following her second-round victory, Raducanu expressed excitement about the upcoming clash against the Pole, stating:

"It’ll be a good match for me. Any match I can play against these top opponents.. I’m loving it. It’s an opportunity to test my game and see where I’m at. We played twice before on clay. Let’s see on hard court. She’s achieved so much already. Going into it, I have nothing to lose. I’m just gonna swing. I’m gonna give it my best. I can’t wait to play in front of you guys."

Emma Raducanu and Iga Swiatek are set to face each other for the fourth time on the WTA Tour. Swiatek currently leads their head-to-head with a commanding 3-0 record. Their most recent encounter took place at the 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, where the Brit lost 6-7(2), 3-6 in the quarterfinals.
