The 22-year-old's selfie comes days after she announced the disappointing news of her withdrawal from her first event of the new season (via ESPN):

"I've tried my best to be ready. I love Auckland and the fans here. But unfortunately I’ve picked up a back niggle and I won’t be ready in time."

Raducanu has battled numerous injury setbacks undergoing several surgeries in recent years. While 2024 showed glimpses of promise, with a fourth-round appearance at Wimbledon and over 30 matches played, inconsistency remained a challenge.

Unfortunately, 2025 began on a familiar note for the Brit, as she was forced to withdraw from the ASB Classic due to fitness concerns.

Emma Raducanu hired renowned strength and conditioning coach Yutaka Nakamura full-time ahead of the 2025 season. Known for working with stars like Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka during their Grand Slam-winning years, Nakamura joined after a successful trial period. She said (via The Guardian):

"I think he is going to help me just really explore how far I can go athletically... It’s a big strength of mine that I have nowhere near fulfilled. I think I can become one of the best athletes out there in tennis and I’m just looking forward to seeing how much I can do. And I think he’s really going to help with that. The way I’m working with him and Nick [Cavaday, her coach], it’s a lot more integrated."

The pair prepared at the LTA National Tennis Centre in London days before Auckland's ASB Classic. At the pre-tournament press conference on December 31, Raducanu said it was "nice" to have someone like Nakamura on her team who has "amazing experience." She also expressed excitement for the new season.

"And I think this year I’m just ready to push on and build on and I’ve really kind of taken measures and steps to do that with my team and how I’m operating and how I’m feeling about things. So, I’m looking forward to this year," Emma Raducanu said.

After withdrawing from Auckland, the 22-year-old traveled to Melbourne to prepare for the Australian Open.
