Emma Raducanu looked extremely delighted in a video shared by her new fitness trainer Yutaka Nakamura. The Brit is currently gearing up to kick off her season at the 2025 Australian Open.
Raducanu brought Nakamura, a strength and conditioning coach, on board in December last year during the off-season. The Brit has frequently struggled with injuries and decided to add Nakamura's expertise to her arsenal. The fitness trainer has worked with the likes of Jennifer Capriati, Maria Sharapova, and Naomi Osaka in the past.
The 22-year-old and her fitness trainer seem to be enjoying working together as evidenced by the latest video shared by Nakamura on his Instagram, where both could be seen having huge smiles on their faces.
Yutaka Nakamura had also shared a snap, clicked by Emma Raducanu, posing in front of Sharapova's winner plaque at the Australian Open. The Russian superstar had conquered Melbourne in 2008.
During her pre-tournament press conference in Melbourne, Raducanu was asked to talk through the effects Nakamura has had on her fitness in their time together to which she mentioned the areas where he has helped her improve.
“I think having him in my camp has been a really good addition. He's helped me a lot just in terms of microdosing bits the fitness here and there throughout the day, tapering and managing my loads. I'm someone who is always going to want to push more, train more, do more. Sometimes actually having him to adapt the exercises or pull me back has been helpful,” she said.
"Yutaka's a really committed person, someone who is quite reliable as well" - Emma Raducanu
Continuing her thoughts, Emma Raducanu mentioned how Yutaka Nakamura's valued experience made him a reliable guy to have by her side. Naomi Osaka had also hailed Nakamura's positive personality recently.
“He's a really committed person, someone who is quite reliable as well. Every day I know that there's not going to be any major surprises coming my way. He's just been obviously with a lot of experienced and top players. So having that and his belief and confidence in me has helped a lot,” she added.
Raducanu said she had already started to see the positive impact of Nakamura's training when she stepped on the court. The Brit also said she was ready to trust her fitness trainer's judgment.
Raducanu is slated to kick off her Australian Open 2025 campaign against the 26th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, in what will be the first meeting between the two women.
