Eugenie Bouchard's comments over Jack Draper's declaration of his love for the cameras recently sparked a debate among tennis fans. The Canadian has a huge social media following and was criticized heavily throughout her career for her modeling and other online ventures.

The newly crowned British No. 1, in a photo shoot with Vogue, revealed that he loved being in front of the camera.

"I quite enjoy being in front of the camera," Draper said.

Eugenie Bouchard tweeted on X (formerly Twitter) that she would've been 'crucified' had she made similar comments, meaning she would have been heavily bullied by the fans.

"If I had said this 10 years ago I would have been crucified," Bouchard tweeted.

Fans agreed with the Canadian's comments that women face heavier consequences for showing their love for modeling and photos. One fan felt that Emma Raducanu, Draper's compatriot, was being treated differently than her male counterpart.

"Raducanu is still getting criticized, nothing has changed for women. Double standards still exists."

Another fan said that players today were under constant scrutiny and couldn't even post a picture of themselves without fans criticizing them for wasting time on social media.

"Lmao even today you can’t post a single picture of you living your life without some losers asking why you aren’t on a tennis court or claiming that’s the reason why you’re not winning"

Here are fans sharing the same feelings as Bouchard.

"Fellow British player Emma Raducanu is constantly criticised for this type of stuff too. I wonder what the difference is!" a fan said
"Well… I see no lies here." another fan said
"She's not wrong. And tbh most of the female players saying it NOW would be, too." a fan opined

Some fans didn't agree with the Canadian's remarks.

"Umm, you literally have been more interested in the camera then tennis your whole career and honestly you are better suited for it." a fan opined
"I promise you we really don’t care." a fan said
"Would you have? Other hot female players did photoshoots, and they weren’t “crucified.” I imagine they didn’t claim to dislike cameras." another fan said

"I went through that six, eight years ago" - Eugenie Bouchard on similarities between Emma Raducanu and herself

During her Madrid Open campaign in 2023, Eugenie Bouchard discussed the similarities she found between herself and Emma Raducanu. She said that she could relate to the pressure and constant scrutiny faced by the Brit. Much like Raducanu, the Canadian also rose to fame early on in her career after reaching the final of the 2014 Wimbledon.

“I see lots of similarities,” Bouchard said of Radacanu. “I feel for her in the sense. She has a great life, she’s set for life and she’s had great achievements. But I can understand a little bit, possibly the pressure, the scrutiny."

The 30-year-old recalled an incident where the Brit opened up about her poor form, but people didn't support the latter and rather asked her to focus on her game. Bouchard also said that it was something she went through six to eight years back.

"She tweeted something, posted something about not doing tennis one day and people were like, `Why don’t you go practice.’ I was like, `Oh, my God, I went through that six, eight years ago.’ Haters will hate, you know what I mean?"

Eugenie Bouchard is currently juggling her career as a professional in tennis and pickleball.
