Emma Raducanu has made a surprising decision regarding the man who caused her distress at the 2025 Dubai Tennis Championships. Her move comes shortly after her second-round exit from the tournament.
After defeating Maria Sakkari in the opening round of Dubai, Raducanu faced Karolina Muchova next. She lost the match 6-7(6), 4-6, and at one point, appeared to have a panic attack, stopped playing, hiding behind the umpire’s chair in fear before eventually breaking down in tears.
The Brit's discomfort was reportedly caused by a man in the stands who approached her, left her a note, took her photograph, and engaged in behavior that unsettled her. However, she has now decided not to take any further action against him and has dropped the charges. Despite this, he has been required to "sign a formal undertaking to maintain a distance from her."
Tennis journalist James Gray reported the news on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, February 20, writing:
"Emma Raducanu has dropped charges against the man who approached her, left her a note, took her photograph and engaged in behaviour that caused her distress, Dubai authorities confirm. However, the individual has 'signed a formal undertaking to maintain distance from her.'"
