Serena Williams' former coach Rennae Stubbs has urged on former tennis player Andy Murray to undertake coaching roles. Stubbs opined that Murray would fare well in that capacity, given his compassionate nature.

Murray took up the racquet sport professionally in the year 2005 and touched great heights in the world of tennis before calling it a day at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Scot boasts of three Grand Slam titles, two Olympic gold medals and 41 weeks as the World No. 1 ATP player. In total, he amassed 49 titles, including 14 at the ATP Masters 1000 level and one at the ATP Finals (2016).

It's only been a handful of months since Murray retired but Rennae Stubbs, who worked with Serena Williams during the 23-time Grand Slam champion's final tournament (2022 US Open), believes the Scot should return to the Tour as a coach.

"Andy Murray, he would be great coaching anyone," Stubbs said in the latest episode of The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast (33:51). "This guy knows tennis like the back of his hand, he knows emotion."

Stubbs reasoned that Murray would be great at managing his player's emotions.

"He would be great coaching anyone, female or male," she added. "Because he just has a great tennis mind. Also, he was a very emotional player and I think that he’d be very empathetic to a player’s tough times on the Tour."

"I would love to see Andy Murray get Ons Jabeur a Wimbledon" - Caitlin Thompson

Rennae Stubbs notably had Racquet magazine's co-founder Caitlin Thompson as a guest speaker on the same episode of The Rennae Stubbs Podcast. Thompson agreed with Stubbs' opinion and interestingly threw in a challenge for Andy Murray to lead Tunisian Ons Jabeur to a Wimbledon title.

"I think Andy has a lot of wisdom," Caitlin said (at 36:21). "I would love to see the way he channelled his emotions and be calm, especially during the year he won the ATP Finals, he won Wimbledon… 2016, 2017? Keep that s**t together. I would love to see him get Ons a Wimbledon."

Murray triumphed at Wimbledon twice in 2013 and 2016 by defeating Novak Djokovic and Milos Raonic in the respective finals.

Ons Jabeur, on the other hand, has fallen short on the last step at the London major twice in 2022 and 2023. She first lost to Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan in the final and then went down against Czech Marketa Vondrousova a year later.
