Eugenie Bouchard's father Michel Bouchard recently poked fun at her for playing pickleball. The Canadian joined the pickleball tour, the PPA Tour in January 2024. However, she has not quit the WTA tour and has decided to split her time playing tennis and pickleball.
Bouchard was one of the most high-profile tennis names who picked up pickleball. The 30-year-old had a fairytale start on the WTA tour, reaching the semifinals at the Australian Open and French Open and the final at Wimbledon in 2014, after just one year on tour.
On the contrary, Bouchard's pickleball career started with a string of losses. She registered her first win in April 2024 after being on the tour for four months. She now has 1025 points and is currently ranked 27 in singles. In women's doubles, she has 775 points and is ranked 57.
After seemingly settling into her new career, Bouchard's father Michel poked fun at her for playing pickleball by sharing a meme. The Canadian shared on Instagram that her father shared a hilarious joke about her pickleball career.
"Not my dad sending me this," she wrote.
Eugenie Bouchard on balancing both pickleball and tennis: "I'm just making myself busier than ever trying to do all of it"
Eugenie Bouchard spoke about simultaneously managing her tennis and pickleball career in an interview with Tennis.com in August 2024. The 30-year-old said she was busier than ever as she has had to juggle more than one job.
“I thought I would have more free time, and I feel actually busier than ever. Now I'm able to spend a week doing Tennis Channel broadcasting, I'm able to attend events, or do things that I normally wouldn't be able to do. Since I’ve had more of a (pickleball) specific schedule planned out, I’ve just added more things into it," Bouchard said.
Bouchard added that tennis was her first love and she intended to continue playing it.
"[Tennis] is something I wanted to keep up this year. It's something I just don't want to let go of, and I absolutely love playing tennis. It's my first true love. We'll be seeing lots of tennis, lots of pickle … I'm just making myself busier than ever trying to do all of it!" she added.
Eugenie Bouchard was last seen playing tennis at the 2024 National Bank Open, where she lost in the first qualifying round.
