Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard shared an adorable moment with a young fan at the WTA 250 Copa Colsanitas in Bogota, Colombia after her first-round win.
On Monday, April 3, Bouchard defeated Swiss tennis player Ylena In-Albon 6-3, 6-2. The impressive win propelled the Canadian into the second round of the 2023 Bogota Open, where she will face off against fourth seed Kamilla Rakhimova.
Following her win against In-Albon, Eugenie Bouchard kindly took the time to sign some tennis memorabilia for her adoring fans. As she was signing, a young boy called her and politely asked for her visor. The Canadian smiled at the little boy and continued with her signings.
A fan who was at the stadium captured the heartwarming moment and took to social media to share the video. Bouchard then shared the same on her Instagram account.
"The boy who asked for my visor 😆," Bouchard captioned her Instagram story.
Eugenie Bouchard into the second round of a tournament for the first time in 2023
Eugenie Bouchard began her professional career in 2009. She has won one title on tour, the 2014 Nuremberg Cup. In a thrilling match against Karolina Pliskova, the Canadian emerged victorious after three intense sets, ultimately winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
In 2014, Bouchard made history by becoming the first Canadian tennis player to reach the Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon. Despite her remarkable achievement, Bouchard's dreams of victory were shattered as she suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Petra Kvitova, losing 6-3, 6-0.
In the same year, the 29-year old also reached the semi-finals at both the French Open and the Australian Open. Despite her impressive performance, she was ultimately defeated by Maria Sharapova 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in a grueling match at the French Open.
At the Melbourne Major, Bouchard faced off against the formidable Li Na in the semifinals. Unfortunately she fell short with a score of 6-2, 6-4. However, Bouchard's journey to the semis was not without its own triumphs, as she managed to take down Ana Ivanovic in the quarterfinals to secure her spot in the last four.
Bouchard's most notable achievements at the US Open occurred in 2014 and 2015, where she advanced to the fourth round in both years. Her exceptional performances in 2014 earned her the prestigious WTA Most Improved Player award, which was well-deserved considering her impressive climb to a career-high ranking of No. 5 in the world.
However, the years since have seen the Canadian take a tumble down the rankings, with multiple injuries and poor form severely hampering the 29-year-old. Currently on the comeback trail, Bouchard is ranked just outside the top 300 in the WTA rankings.
The victory in Bogota marked her first main draw win in 2023, having previously exited in the qualifiers of the ASB Classic and the Australian Open.
