Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard recently expressed her gratitude towards her new followers on Instagram. She warmly referred to them as her "new friends," as she reached a remarkable milestone of 2.4 million followers on the social media platform.
Bouchard has been in and out of tennis since her shoulder injury. Since her return following surgery, she has struggled to find her form. The 29-year old's performances in the 2023 season have been less than satisfactory.
Bouchard was forced to withdraw from her second qualifying match at the ASB Classic in Auckland due to food poisoning. Her appearance at the 2023 Australian Open resulted in her elimination in the first round of qualifiers by Ashlyn Krueger.
However, she has something to cheer about off the field. On Thursday, March 23, Eugenie Bouchard took to social media to welcome her new followers on Instagram.
"Hi new friends," Bouchard captioned her Instagram story, which had a photo of her profile with special emphasis on her followers count.
Eugenie Bouchard reacts to "legend" Venus Williams' recent visit to Wimbledon
Venus Williams recently visited the iconic Wimbledon grounds, which have been the setting of her most successful Grand Slam tournament victories. Williams found herself in London and took the opportunity to snap some photos next to the trophy case inside the club, as well as at the entrance of Centre Court.
"And somehow… I ended up at @wimbledon!" Williams captioned her Instagram post.
Reacting to the same, Bouchard simply referred to Williams as a 'legend.'
Williams and Bouchard have crossed paths twice on tour, but are yet to face off at Wimbledon. In their initial encounter in Tokyo in 2013, the American tennis legend emerged victorious. However, Bouchard secured one of the most significant triumphs of her career by defeating Williams at Charleston in 2014.
Both players also have some special memories of Wimbledon.
Williams' five singles titles at the grasscourt Major came between 2000 and 2008. They were accompanied by six women's doubles titles, all of which she won alongside her sister Serena Williams.
Bouchard, on the other hand, made it to the singles final in 2014. She defeated formidable opponents such as Alize Cornet, Angelique Kerber, and Simona Halep before ultimately falling to Petra Kvitova.
Both Eugenie Bouchard and Venus Williams are currently on a break from the WTA tour as they recover from injuries.
