Serena Williams' former coach Rick Macci spoke on how the former's father Richard responded to accusations of her using steroids. The 43-year-old enjoyed a stellar career, during which she cemented her status as one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
Williams won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and an additional 16 doubles Majors. She also clinched four Olympic golds and was the World No. 1. The American called it quits on her illustrious career in 2022, with that year's US Open being her last tournament.
Throughout her playing days, Serena Williams was known for her powerful serve and her strength. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion's former coach Rick Macci said that as a kid, she had "muscles on muscles", which led others to believe that she took steroids and lifted weights.
Williams' father Richard had a strong reply to this, as he stated that she only lifted trophies.
"As a kid Serena had muscles on muscles. Everybody thought steroids and she lifted weights. Richard the Compton Comedian told everybody she only lifts trophies!" Macci wrote on X.
"Serena would practice at 5 am some mornings in the pitch dark with his the car lights shining behind her and dad with a flashlight blinking on and off in her eyes. The Compton Comedian would always say hey MEEK get used to the bright lights! Love this guy," he wrote.
