Madison Keys gave an emotional winners speech after the Australian Open final, in which, she had some heartfelt words for her husband/coach Bjorn Fratangelo and the rest of her team. The American produced the performance of a lifetime to win her maiden Grand Slam at the Melbourne Major.
Keys delivered a brilliant performance at the Australian Open from the very start, beating the likes of Danielle Collins, Elena Rybakina, Elina Svitolina, and Iga Swiatek. She squared off against defending champion Aryna Sabalenaka in the final and earned a remarkable 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory.
Following this match Keys gave an emotional winner's speech, opening up about the aims she had for this tournament. Along with this, she spoke about her coach/husband Bjorn Fratangelo's presence and credited her team for being there for her throughout and helping her win the trophy.
"I have wanted this for so long and I have been in one of the Grand Slam's finals, it did not go my way, didn't know, if I was ever be able to get back to this position to try to win a trophy again. My team believed in me in every step of the way so, thank you so much. They believed in me when I didn't believe in myself and helped me every step of the way," said Madison Keys.
She added:
"Last year was so tough with some really bad injuries and I didn't know if I was gonna be able to do it again and to be here and have this trophy and also be able to do it with my husband, who is kind of dazed and confused over there. Alright, love you all so much and cannot wait for more. I just wanna say, thank you so much, I am so appreciative to every single person who helped me continue to believe in myself, push on to achieve this dream and thank you so much and I cannot wait to see you all next year.
Madison Keys received sweet words from Andy Roddick after her performance against Iga Swiatek at the Australian Open
Madison Keys squared off against Iga Swiatek in the semifinals of the Australian Open 2025 and dominated the game, advancing to the finals, 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(10). Following this win, she was lauded by Andy Roddick in his podcast, 'Served,' where he analysed Keys' game.
“You knew she was going to be emotional when she closed it out and she stepped up. She was down 5-7 in the breaker and just stuck to her game plan. She knew there was no winning with just putting the balls in the court. She had to fire when she had two feet underneath her," Roddick said.
He added:
"It was a clear game plan. Game plans are easy, ideas are easy, the execution is hard. Otherwise, every person would be a professional tennis player.”
Ahead of the Australian Open, Madison Keys also won the Adelaide International after defeating top-seeded compatriot Jessica Pegula 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in the final. The Melbourne Major is the American's tenth WTA singles and it takes her win-loss record in 2025 to 14-1.
