Boris Becker has expressed his admiration for the camaraderie between Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz in the lead-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Spanish tennis squad recently arrived in Paris, familiarizing themselves with the environment, training, and giving interviews to the press.
Carlos Alcaraz will be participating in the Olympic Games for the first time in his career. Earlier in June, the Spanish Tennis Association announced that Alcaraz would be partnering with the 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal to represent the country in the doubles category.
On Wednesday, six-time Grand Slam winner Boris Becker was impressed by the bond between Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal. He reposted a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) quoting Alcaraz’s interview with "Eurosport", where the 21-year-old spoke about learning a lot from Rafael Nadal.
“I am very excited to be in my first Games and to be with Rafa. Returning to Roland-Garros makes it easier. We are going to give our best and hopefully we can enjoy a great game. I have less experience and I hope to be able to adapt quickly... I can learn everything from Rafa. That way of competing, of fighting, and that humility off the court,” Carlos Alcaraz said
In Becker's repost of the tweet, he expressed his admiration for the brotherhood existing between Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz and went on to urge other countries to emulate them.
“Love the brotherhood between Rafa and Carlito! Spain. Example for other countries!” Boris Becker wrote.
Rafael Nadal on partnering with Carlos Alcaraz and their chances of winning a medal at the Paris Olympics - “Let's not think that this translates into success”
Rafael Nadal recently opined that his partnership with Alcaraz at the tournament does not automatically guarantee winning a medal. Speaking during the Spanish Tennis team press conference in the Olympic Village, Nadal said that the 21-year-old doesn't have much experience in playing doubles, and he himself has not been able to compete in many matches, both in singles and doubles, this season.
"I understand the fascination, the hope of seeing us play together, (but) let's not think that this translates into success, I think that's a mistake. At the end of the day Carlos hasn't played much doubles and I haven't played much in either doubles or singles...We will see what happens," Nadal said.
The 2024 Paris Olympic Games will be the first time Alcaraz participates in the tournament, while Nadal has represented Spain at three Olympic Games. He won a gold medal in the singles category at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and a gold medal in the doubles category, partnering with Marc López at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
