Tennis legend Roger Federer recently raised concerns about Jannik Sinner's doping verdict while also emphasizing that everyone must trust the process. His comments later prompted widespread reactions from tennis fans.
Sinner tested positive for Clostebol during the ATP Masters 1000 event in March this year. He was provisionally suspended, but the decision was overturned after he explained that the substance entered his system through treatment from his physiotherapist.
After the investigation, ITIA determined that the amount of substance in Sinner's system was negligible and cleared him of wrongdoing. Although the World No. 1 was allowed to continue competing, he had his ranking points and prize money from Indian Wells revoked.
Several fans and pundits, including Nick Kyrgios and Denis Shapovalov, were dissatisfied with the verdict and called for Sinner's suspension. Among the "Big Three," while Djokovic initially expressed doubts about the ruling, Rafael Nadal voiced his support.
Roger Federer recently commented on Jannik Sinner's anti-doping verdict, questioning the inconsistency of allowing him to play while the investigation was ongoing. The 20-time Major champion emphasized the importance of addressing this issue while acknowledging the need to trust the process during an appearance on 'The Today Show' on September 3.
"I think we all trust pretty much that Jannik didn’t do anything, but the inconsistency potentially that he didn’t have to sit out while they weren’t 100 percent sure what was going on, I think that’s the question here that needs to be answered. But look, it is what it is, and we need to trust the process as well of anyone involved here," Federer said.
Several fans on Reddit later came in support of Federer. One fan noted:
"So out of Big 3 Fed and Djoko gave reasonable answers that had concerns about the process and consistency while Nadal gave the most NPC like answer imaginable."
"I always knew Roger is smart and he never disappoints me," a fan said.
"What Federer said here is 100% correct. The thing is though just like other tennis problems, the top players will be quiet or will just sit back regarding about these policies," another commented.
Here are a few more reactions from the fans:
"I think this is the same opinion as 99% of the tennis world," a fan wrote.
"As a big Sinner fanboy, the only unanswered question is why the trainer even had a banned substance to begin with," a fan chimed in.
"The question needs to be answered. Not the answer. That’s not interesting. The inconsistency. Yeh," another said.
