Felix Auger-Aliassime blowing a 2-0 lead to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open has sparked a chain of reactions among tennis fans. The Canadian, who had been struggling with his form for the past few years, seemed to have gained some rhythm heading into 2025. However, his plans to reach the upper echelons of the tennis world have been derailed for now.
Auger-Aliassime kicked off by winning the Adelaide International, a triumph many believed could kickstart his return to the top especially since he defeated Tommy Paul and Sebastian Korda en route to the title. He then entered the Australian Open as the 29th seed and dealt with the Jan-Lennard Struff threat comfortably 6-3, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.
He then played the dangerous Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and clinched the hard-fought opening two sets in the tiebreaker. However, Fokina dominated the Canadian in the following three sets to complete a resilient turnaround and win (7)6-7, (5)6-7, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 at 1:15 am.
Fans took umbrage to the 24-year-old's disappointing performance on X (formerly Twitter). One fan said Felix Auger-Aliassime should be banned from tennis.
"Felix Auger Aliassime must be banned from playing Tennis TODAY!!! He's a threat to global security," the fan said.
Another fan dubbed the Canadian an 'embarrassment' in Grand Slams.
"Felix is an embarrassment in majors. God only knows where his head goes," the fan commented.
Here are some other reactions from tennis fans.
"Felix….. I have no words anymore," a fan was shocked.
"Felix Auger-Aliassime gets folks hopes up every year and he never fails to disappoint lmao," a fan quipped.
"Another early round loss at a Slam for Auger-Aliassime & disappointing after 2 set lead & coming off Adelaide," a fan mentioned.
"Auger Aliassime try to finish a tennis match at reasonable hours challenge," a fan joked.
Interestingly, the Canadian holds an infamous record of having blown a 2-0 lead in three of his last five defeats at the Australian Open.

This is not the first time Felix Auger-Aliassime has blown a 2-0 lead at the Australian Open. While he lost to Daniil Medvedev in straight sets last year, he was defeated from a setup by Jiri Lehecka in 2023.
In 2022, Auger-Aliassime faced Medvedev in the quarterfinals and was on the brink of a career-best win with a 2-0 lead. But Medvedev, who has a knack for playing five-setters at the Happy Slam turned things around to win (4)6-7, 3-6, 7-6(2), 7-5, 6-4.
Interestingly, in 2021, the Canadian led Aslan Karatsev by two sets but suffered the same fate as in 2022 and 2025. Karatsev clinched the match 3-6, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
