Felix Auger-Aliassime was given a warm welcome to the Rafa Nadal Academy by the Spaniard's sister Maria Isabel (popularly known as Maribel) on Tuesday.
Auger-Aliassime arrived in Mallorca to resume his training session. He is currently practicing under the supervision of Nadal's uncle Toni. Apart from Toni, the World No. 7 shares a good relationship with other members of the Spaniard’s family as well.
Nadal's sister Maribel, who is also one of the top executives at the academy, can be frequently seen greeting the young Canadian whenever he returns for training.
On Tuesday, Maribel took to social media to welcome Auger-Aliassime on his arrival at the academy.
"WELOME @FELIXALIASSIME," she wrote on her Instagram story.
Reacting to this, Auger-Aliassime said he was "always happy" whenever he arrives at the academy.
"ALWAYS HAPPY TO BE HERE," the 22-year-old's Instagram story read.
Before heading to the court, Auger-Aliassime enjoyed "the golden hour" in Mallorca on Sunday. He shared the same on social media.
"Enjoying golden hour in Mallorca," he captioned his Instagram post.
Maribel said she hoped that Auger-Aliassime would like Porto Cristo, a small town on the eastern coast of Mallorca where the Canadian was staying.
"Welcome!!! Hope you like Porto Cristo," Maribel commented on the player's post.
"Getting in some good work" - Felix Auger Aliassime on training with his team at the Rafa Nadal Academy
Felix Auger-Aliassime has been training relentlessly with his team at the Rafa Nadal Academy as the player hopes to bounce back after a rather disappointing start to the new season.
The 22-year-old commenced his 2023 campaign at the Adelaide International 1. He suffered a shocking first-round defeat against Australian Alexei Popyrin in straight sets.
Auger-Aliassime then flew to Melbourne to take part in the first Grand Slam of the season. While he was impressive in his first three rounds, Czech Jiri Lehecka got the better of him in the fourth round match as his campaign Down Under came to an end.
However, the 2022 Basel Open champion expressed hopes of turning things around as he reflected on some of the "good work" he has put in with his team in the past week at the academy.
"Getting in some good work with the team this week," Auger-Aliassime wrote on his Instagram post.
Felix Auger-Aliassime dropped one place from No. 6 in the ATP rankings after the first week of January, owing to a poor performance in Adelaide. However, the results in Melbourne did not affect the player's rankings.
