Gymnast Lynnzee Brown recently reacted to Naomi Osaka trying to secure a Haitian pin at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This will be Osaka's second time competing at the Games, with her first being in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics. Brown, meanwhile, is making her debut at the Games.
Before beginning her campaign at Roland Garros, Osaka took to TikTok to share a video of herself where she stated she has two important tasks which she plans to accomplish at the Olympics - firstly, buying some souvenirs for her daughter Shai:
"Get ready with me to go to the Olympic Village and I have two very important goals in mind. One is to buy Shai a very cute souvenir from the, I guess, I don't know, the Olympic souvenir store."
The second thing Osaka mentioned she plans to accomplish is to "stop," "hassle," or 'beg' anybody for a Haitian Olympic pin, to honor her Japanese and Haitian heritage.
"And then two, this is honestly one... no Shai is one. I am going to bargain, hassle, stop anybody that has a Haitian pin and I am going to beg them for it. I am going to park myself outside of the Haitian building. I might go in, I don’t know, and ask, ‘Please, please, please, can I please have a Haitian pin?,'" Osaka added.
"So yeah, these are my Japanese pins and I am hoping that I can get a Haitian one. I will update everybody. Fingers crossed. This is my goal. I wasn’t able to get one in Tokyo but this is my goal. You will see me stopping every Haitian athlete or I will be parked outside of the Haitian building," she continued.
Reacting to Osaka's video, Haiti's first Olympic gymnast, Lynnzee Brown, said that she is determined to find the Japanese and give her the Haitian pin. She posted on X (formerly Twitter):
"Tomorrow's mission: Find Naomi! 😤. "
