Emma Raducanu is one of the most exciting tennis players in the world, but she hasn't been able to show much of that in recent years due to continuous and prolonged physical issues. While part of that was a long break due to a triple surgery, Raducanu has generally struggled to keep herself intact with multiple nagging injuries.
To address that, she's worked with a couple of very notable fitness coaches over the years with some, but relatively minor, improvement. Another one who will get a chance to work with her is prominent fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura, who has worked with tennis players in the past.
Nakamura famously worked with Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka as well as some other players, and the hope is that the coach will be able to help Raducanu unlock her fitness potential. She's been working with him during the offseason at the Lawn Tennis Association Centre in Roehampton, and after a trial, she's elected to keep him on for the 2025 season.
To celebrate that, the duo took a selfie together, the first official picture of the pair together, shared by Nakamura on Instagram.
Raducanu has long been on record claiming that she can be one of the best athletes on tour, and there is plenty of potential there. Unlocking that potential will be crucial to her and, according to the Brit, Nakamura is very likely to get that done.
“I think he is going to help me just really explore how far I can go athletically. It’s a big strength of mine that I have nowhere near fulfilled. I think I can become one of the best athletes out there in tennis and I’m just looking forward to seeing how much I can do," Raducanu was quoted by The Guardian.
Emma Raducanu's 2025 plan
The 2025 season will be quite pivotal for Raducanu, who hasn't really followed up her stunning US Open defeat with any particular tennis achievement. She's played well at times but for the most part struggled to tap into the excellence she displayed in New York in 2021.
The ambitions for the upcoming season are high as she wants to establish herself as one of the better players on tour and having her fitness on point will be a huge part of that. As for her early season schedule, she'll be heading to Auckland for the ASB Classic with the Australian Open planned after that.
