Caroline Wozniacki has started her 2024 US Open campaign with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Nao Hibino in the first round, all while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood and the rigors of professional tennis. Wozniacki recently opened up about her life on the road with her children James and Olivia.
Wozniacki's performance in the US Open has been noteworthy, with two runner-up finishes in 2009 and 2014. After a brief retirement, she made a comeback in 2023, reaching the fourth round of that year's US Open. Married to former NBA player David Lee, Wozniacki welcomed her first child, Olivia, in June 2021, and her second child, James, in October 2022.
In a recent post-match press conference at the 2024 US Open, Wozniacki opened up about her life on the road with her family. The Dane expressed how her children, James and Olivia, have adjusted well to the constant travel and change.
"They absolutely love it. I mean, I bring them everywhere. I think it's such a great life experience for them, even though they're so young, they don't know any better. This is your life, traveling everywhere, meeting new people, seeing new places. I think they've become really open kids from that, and they adjust so well to a new bed, a new hotel room," Wozniacki said.
Wozniacki noted that her children have become very open and adaptable, easily adjusting to new environments.
"We came here this year, Olivia walks into her room, she goes, Wow, this is a nice house we have here. I go, Yeah, don't get too used to this. She goes, Well, this is mine now. She, like, runs in and she's so thrilled. It's just fun to see the world through her and James' eyes. It's nice to see how easy they adjust to everything," Wozniacki added.
"My kids are an extension of me and are always around" - Caroline Wozniacki
During the pre-tournament press conference for the 2024 Australian Open, Caroline Wozniacki expressed her pleasure in traveling with her children, referring to them as an "extension" of herself.
"I travel with my kids everywhere. They kind of are an extension of me and always around. I really enjoy that," Caroline Wozniacki said. "They're very adaptable. They're at an age where you can move them around, and especially the older one, Olivia, she loves to travel and explore. She asks me when we're going on the plane next, where we're going next."
Caroline Wozniacki's win over Nao Hibino is the most comprehensive first-round win she has enjoyed in her US Open career so far. The Dane will next play Renata Zarazua in the second round of the New York Major. The Mexican registered her very first main-draw match win at the US Open after ousting 28th seed Caroline Garcia 6-1, 6-4.
Wozniacki and Zarazua will lock horns for the very first time, with the winner of the match facing either fourth seed Elena Rybakina or French Open Jessika Ponchet in the third round of the New York Major.
