Garbine Muguruza and her husband, Arthur Borges, have welcomed an adorable new member to their family. The couple introduced their new puppy, sharing heartwarming glimpses of their cherished moments.
After taking a hiatus from the sport for over a year, Muguruza announced her retirement from professional tennis in April, choosing to end her career at the age of 30. In an interview with the Telegraph, the Spaniard explained that her decision was motivated by her desire to spend more time with her loved ones while building her family and getting a dog.
"I’m leaving tennis because I’m looking forward to being with my loved ones, making a trip without my tennis rackets, probably building a family, getting a dog. I just want to do nothing," Muguruza said.
In October, Garbine Muguruza married Arthur Borges in an intimate ceremony at the La Concepción estate in Marbella, Spain. The couple, who have been together since 2021, recently fulfilled one of the Spaniard's post-retirement goals by adopting a dog.
Muguruza recently took to social media and introduced their new pug Gordi, posting rare photos of her husband as they bonded with their puppy against the scenic backdrop of Geneva, Switzerland.
"Say hello to our little baby!! Gordi the pug is finally with us. ❤️🐶❤️," she captioned her Instagram post.
The couple continued to stroll the streets of Geneva, with the Spaniard lovingly cuddling their new puppy.
"Like a Hollywood movie... It was love at first sight" - Garbine Muguruza on her 'crazy' romance with husband Arthur Borges
Garbine Muguruza first crossed paths with her now husband Arthur Borges in a chance encounter on the streets of New York during the 2021 US Open. In an interview with the Tennis Channel earlier this year, the Spaniard described it as "love at first sight," as she opened up about their "crazy" romance.
Muguruza shared that Borges, who was an avid tennis fan, had recognized her and wished her luck for her campaign at the New York Major. The couple then went on their first date just a day after their initial meeting.
"It's like a Hollywood movie, it's a crazy story. We met in the street in New York. It was love at first sight. It was one of those boring days, I didn't know what to do so I decided to go for a walk in Central Park, as always," Muguruza said.
"Yeah, I just bumped [into] him. And, I was like, wait a minute, you're very handsome. Who are you? And, he is a tennis fan so he recognized me and said 'Hey, good luck'... That's it. That was enough. Next day, we were on our first date," she added.
Garbine Muguruza has also shed light on the touching details of Arthur Borges' "romantic" proposal at the Marbella Club Hotel, recalling how she was overcome with emotion upon seeing the breathtaking setup he had organized for the special occasion.
