Ben Rothenberg, a tennis journalist, recently shared his thoughts on how President Joe Biden made a grave mistake when he addressed Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, by referring to him as "President Putin." The incident took place during a press conference on the sidelines of the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) summit.
US President Biden had previously come under fire from critics after a subpar performance during the Presidential Debate. Now he is facing the ire of Americans for being at the center of a huge mix-up.
During the press conference, Biden introduced the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, as President Putin.
"And now I want to hand it over to the President of Ukraine who has as much courage as he has determination ladies and gentlemen, President Putin," President Biden said.
Realizing his mistake, he tried to cover up the gaffe by saying:
"We got to beat President Putin. President Zelenskyy. I am so focused on beating Putin. We’ve got to worry about it."
As a result, Ben Rothenberg urged President Biden to drop out of the race for re-election. He went on to say that there are much better options available.
"Cannot overstate how over it is for this guy. Give it up, Joe. The candidacy first, and then the presidency ASAP as well. America has its issues but deserves much better than whatever farce this has become. There are so many better options for the future and the present," Rothenberg wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
One fan tried to justify Biden's mix-up by calling it a 'misspeak' and cautioned Rothenberg for seeking perfection all the time. In response, the journalist wrote that the US president ought to be held to far higher standards than regular people.
"I can beat this standard but surely the US President is held to a higher standard than the average citizen! You gotta be exceptionally great to deserve and succeed in that job," he wrote.
Tennis Journalist Ben Rothenberg weighs in on Joe Biden vs Donald Trump debate
In a recent tweet, Ben Rothenberg recently called Joe Biden "frail and week" and stated that Donald Trump would pose too much of a threat to the incumbent. He went on to say that Vice President Kamla Harris and other better options were available within the Democratic Party.
"The threat of Trump is too great to have someone as frail and weak as Biden as the chosen alternative. If by “other option” you mean Harris, or Whitmer, or Pritzker, or Buttigieg, or Newsom, or Beshear, or any other Dem TBD, then no, Biden is wildly worse than all those options," Rothenberg wrote.
A number of former American tennis players, including Martina Navratilova and Andy Roddick, have also expressed their views regarding the nation's current political climate.
