"Gone way too soon" - Andre Agassi & Coco Gauff's ex-coach Brad Gilbert mourns the death of baseball legend Rickey Henderson

Andre Agassi and Coco Gauff's former coach, Brad Gilbert mourned the passing of baseball icon Rickey Henderson. Gilbert coached Agassi from 1994 to 2002 and Gauff from 2023 to 2024.

Henderson was an American baseball left fielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1979 to 2003. A Hall of Famer, he had multiple spells at the Oakland Athletics.

The 65-year old also played for the New York Yankees, New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, Anaheim Angels, and Los Angeles Dodgers .

Rickey Henderson passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024, after battling pneumonia, as reported by TMZ.

Reacting to Henderson's death, Brad Gilbert took to social media to express his sadness, stating that the "legendary player" was gone "way too soon." He also mentioned that the Hall of Famer was a must-see TV player.

“RIP Rickey Henderson beloved Oaktown native gone way to soon, absolutely 💯 legendary player that was must see tv 📺 🙏 ⚾️ ," Gilbert posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Henderson family released a statement after Rickey Henderson passing which read:

“It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of my husband, Rickey Henderson," the statement read . “Rickey lived his life with integrity, and his love for baseball was paramount. Now, Rickey is at peace with the Lord, cherishing the extraordinary moments and achievements he leaves behind ."
“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and heartfelt memories from family, friends, and fans — all of which have brought immense comfort . Your prayers and kindness mean more than words can express ."

Reacting to this horrific event, Coco Gauff and Andre Agassi's former coach, Brad Gilbert pointed out that there is an urgent need for stricter gun laws.

Gilbert also stressed that it was important to securely store firearms in households where children reside, to prevent such tragedies from occurring.

“So sad 😞 that a 15 year old gets a gun, there has to be massively stricter laws that guns 💪 have to be locked 🔐 when children are living in the house 🏡 unfortunately we have zero ability to change gun laws," Gilbert posted on X.
