"Good start" - Boris Becker rejoices as Germany opens UEFA Euro 2024 campaign with a thumping 5-1 win over Scotland

German legend Boris Becker reacted after the German national football team secured a comprehensive victory over Scotland. Becker was in attendance for the 2024 UEFA Euro opener.

The 2024 edition of the UEFA Euro kicked off in style in Munich, Germany. Hosts Germany secured a thumping win in their opening match of the competition. The Germans beat 10-men Scotland 5-0 in a one-sided affair at the Allianz Arena on Friday, June 14.

A user on X shared a picture of Boris Becker sporting Germany's national football jersey. The former World No. 1 attended the Euro opener at the Allianz Arena, supporting his national team.

The six-time Grand Slam winner replied to the user. Becker gave his verdict on Germany's victory with a tweet in German:

"Guter Start für uns …5:1". [Translation (in english) - good start for us... 5-1 ]

Six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker is an avid football fan and frequently provides his views on various footballing topics on social media. He is also a big follower of German giants FC Bayern Munich.

The German football team broke several records with their comprehensive victory over Scotland. It was the biggest margin of victory for the host in the European Championships and also the biggest win for any side in an opening match of the tournament.

The former World No. 1 Boris Becker made stunning remarks after Carlos Alcaraz's 2024 French Open triumph. Speaking with Eurosports, the German compared the 21-year-old Spaniard with Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer.

Becker's remarks came after Carlos Alcaraz beat Alexander Zverev in the 2024 French Open final to clinch his third Grand Slam title. He beat Zverev 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 in an epic five-set thriller. With this win, he became the youngest player to win a Grand Slam on all surfaces.

Becker claimed that Alcaraz at 21 is better than Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic when they were the same age. The 56-year-old also congratulated Alcaraz and Zverev for their epic showdown at the French Open finale.

He was quoted as saying (via Tennis365.com):

“In my eyes, he’s better at 21 than Nadal, Djokovic or Federer were at the same age. And then the way he presents himself – you just have to like him.
"What a gladiatorial battle between two fantastic players. The final had everything that makes a tennis heart beat faster. Congratulations to Alcaraz. What a fighter, what a player. Huge respect for Alexander Zverev, what a tournament in Paris."
