Alexander Zverev vs Arthur Fils preview

World No. 4 Alexander Zverev will take on France's Arthur Fils for a place in the semifinals of the 2024 Terra Wortmann Open on Friday, June 21.
Zverev has achieved spectacular results on the ATP Tour this season. Although the German endured a few quiet months following a semifinal run at the Australian Open, he made plenty of amends by winning a sixth career Masters-level title in Rome last month.
The 27-year-old then reached his second Major final at the French Open a few weeks later but lost to Carlos Alcaraz in five sets. He has carried his rich vein of form into the ATP 500 event in Halle this week. The second seed overcame a set deficit to beat countryman Oscar Otte in his opener, before downing Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets in the Round of 16.
Fils, meanwhile, has failed to impress in 2024, having dropped 15 of his 29 pro-tour matches before arriving at the Terra Wortmann Open. The World No. 37, however, is yet to drop a set at the tournament, beating Tomas Machac and Dominik Koepfer en route to the last eight.
Alexander Zverev vs Arthur Fils head-to-head
Zverev leads Fils 1-0 in their head-to-head meetings on the ATP Tour. The German got the better of the Frenchman at last year's Hamburg Open in straight sets en route to his 20th career title.

Alexander Zverev vs Arthur Fils prediction

Zverev is currently one of the most all-round players on the men's tour. The 26-year-old possesses dependable groundstrokes on both wings, with his cross-court backhand being one of the biggest weapons in tennis. That said, it has relatively less penetration on grass courts as the surface counteracts a high amount of topspin.
Fils has a more explosive style of play than his older opponent. Not unlike the second seed, the 20-year-old also has a big first serve. He has perhaps been the more comfortable player on the fast grass courts of Halle this week.
The keys for both players will be to dominate their service games and finish rallies as quickly as possible. Fils, on his part, is coming into this match-up with much more rest than Zverev, who has played a heavy schedule this year. In that context, the Frenchman just might be able to spring up an upset over the World No. 4 in their quarterfinal encounter on Friday.
Pick: Arthur Fils in three sets.
