The Indian pair of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth clinched the men’s doubles title at the Hangzhou Open 2024 on Tuesday, September 24.
They overcame the German pair of Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens in a nail-biting final held on the Centre Court. The Indian duo fought their way to a 4-6, 7-6(5), 10-7 victory, maintaining composure under pressure to eventually win a match that went down to the wire.
Frantzen and Jebens took the first set 6-4, but the Indian duo, known for their fighting spirit, staged a comeback in the second set. After edging out the Germans in a tense second set, Jeevan and Prashanth held onto their momentum, going on to win the match tiebreak and seal the title in style.
Both pairs recorded a 68% success rate on their first serves, with the Indians narrowly ahead in their win percentage on the first serve at 80%, compared to the Germans' 79%. The second-serve points won were tied at 77% for both sides, emphasizing how evenly matched they were throughout the contest.
Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Prashanth saved all the break points they faced, while managing to convert one of their three opportunities, which proved crucial in their victory.
Though Frantzen and Jebens served more aces (8 compared to 3 from the Indian pair), the Indians remained focused during the key moments. They won 72 points overall, just one more than their opponents, which shows the close margin of victory.

Their campaign began with a Round-of-16 victory over the Australian pair of Brandon Bayldon and Thomas Fancutt. The Indians showed their mettle in a tight contest, winning 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-7, setting the tone for the rest of the tournament.
In the semi-finals, the unseeded Indian pair delivered a stunning comeback against the third-seeded duo of Ariel Behar from Uruguay and Robert Galloway from the United States.
After losing the first set 0-6, the Indians bounced back to win 6-2, 10-4 in a match that lasted just over an hour. In the quarter-finals, they narrowly edged past the British pair of Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash, winning 6-7(4), 7-6(6), 10-8 in another closely battled encounter.
With this title, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth have made a solid statement on the ATP tour.
