Serena Williams' former coach, Rick Macci, recently shared a story about how her father, Richard, "brutally cheated" on her during tennis matches in her childhood. The veteran coach recalled the anecdote as he reminisced about those early days.

Macci shared that Richard played with Serena every day and described his strokes as "dodgy" while acknowledging his serve had "some juice." He added that Richard’s habit of cheating during their sessions gave Serena priceless life lessons that couldn’t be learned anywhere else.

Macci wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

“Richard played Serena every day. He was a consistent tennis player. His strokes were dodgy but serve had some juice. By far the most Consistent part of his game was he BRUTALLY CHEATED HER LIKE NO OTHER! Unmatched life lessons from the King @serenawilliams @Venuseswilliams.”

The Williams sisters started their tennis journey at just four years old, training under their father, Richard, on public courts. Armed with an ambitious 78-page training plan, Richard was determined to see his daughters excel—a vision that led Serena to win 23 Grand Slam titles and Venus to claim seven.

Venus and Serena Williams' former coach, Rick Macci, has consistently expressed his admiration for their father, Richard, and the way he trained his daughters. In a recent post on X, he once again praised the 82-year-old, calling him the "most consistent" person he has ever known.

"Every day Richard was in a good mood. Every day Richard was in a bad mood mood. The most consistent guy by far I ever met because I always knew to expect the unexpected. @Venuseswilliams @Serenawilliams," Macci wrote.

Macci added:

"Richard day one in Compton told me that nobody knows what is inside these little girls. Nobody knows what is under the HOOD. He said besides a BRUTAL RAGE AND COMPTON STREET FIGHT what is under these two little kids HOOD will always be THE HOOD!"

Venus and Serena joined Macci's academy in 1991, after relocating from Compton, California, to West Palm Beach, Florida, to train. However, four years later, their father pulled them out of the academy and resumed coaching them himself. It wasn’t long before Grand Slam success followed for the Williams sisters.
