Alexander Zverev's girlfriend Sophia Thomalla recently joked on social media about the German's victory at the 2024 Italian Open. She playfully commented on him bringing home the winner's cup rather than the runner-up trophy.

In Sunday's Italian Open final, Alexander Zverev defeated Chile's Nicolas Jarry 6-4, 7-5, securing the sixth ATP Masters 1000 title of his career.

On Monday, Thomalla posted a picture of Zverev holding the Italian Open trophy on Instagram to commemorate his victory. In her caption, Thomalla humorously suggested that Zverev knew she could do more with a cup at home than a plate, a tongue-in-cheek comment on the difference between the winner's cup-shaped trophy and the runner-up's plate-like trophy.

“He simply knew that I could do more with a cup at home than with a plate,” Sophia Thomalla wrote (translated from German).

Alexander Zverev defeated the likes of Aleksandar Vukic, Luciano Darderi, Nuno Borges, Taylor Fritz, and Alejandro Tabilo before defeating Nicolas Jarry in the final.

Sophia Thomalla, a model and actress from Germany, has reportedly been in a relationship with Zverev since 2021. The couple has been spotted together on red carpets and frequently share photos of each other on social media. Thomalla has also been seen cheering for Zverev from the stands during his matches.

After his win against Nicolas Jarry in the Italian Open final, Alexander Zverev was asked about his readiness for the French Open during the post-match press conference.

Zverev stated that when he plays well, he’s capable of defeating any opponent, but a subpar performance could lead to a loss against any player. Zverev was quoted as saying:

“I've said it many times before, and I'm going to say it again: I'm somebody that I know when I don't play well, I can lose to anyone, but when I play well, I know I can beat anyone. That's my mindset. That's how I think about it."
"I know I have to focus on myself, to find my rhythm in Paris the way I did here. Then everything is on my own racquet," he added.

As Zverev sets his sights on a first Grand Slam title in Paris, the World No. 4 has consistently reached the semifinals of the French Open for the past three years (2021-2023). Zverev’s best Grand Slam performance to date was in 2020 when he reached the final of the US Open, where he was defeated by Dominic Thiem.
