Several fans have accused Nick Kyrgios of double standards for defending Caroline Garcia against online abuse while previously targeting Jannik Sinner. Kyrgios has frequently criticized the ruling on Jannik Sinner's doping controversy.

Sinner tested positive for Clostebol in March but successfully appealed the decision, explaining that the substance entered his system during treatment by his physiotherapist. The authorities deemed the amount negligible and non-performance-enhancing, allowing Sinner to continue playing.

The ruling was not well received by Kyrgios, who even called for a two-year suspension for the Italian. Additionally, while commentating during the US Open, the Aussie remarked that he would no longer treat the World No. 1 the same way as before.

Amid his frustrations with Sinner, Kyrgios recently extended his support to Caroline Garcia, who faced social media abuse following her early exit from the US Open on Tuesday. Seeded 28th, Garcia was defeated by Renata Zarazúa in the first round on Tuesday.

After her exit from Flushing Meadows, the French player revealed via her X handle that she had received numerous abusive messages from trolls and even shared a few screenshots of the same. She stressed that players like her, already emotionally affected by losses, can be further harmed by such negativity.

"It really worries me when I think about younger players coming up, that have to go through this. People that still haven’t yet developed fully as a human and that really might be affected by this hate. Maybe you can think that it doesn’t hurt us. But it does," Garcia wrote on X.
"We are humans. And sometimes, when we receive this messages we are already emotionally destroyed after a tough loss. And they can be damaging. Many before me have raised the subject. And still, no progress has been made," she added.

Kyrgios later expressed sympathy for Garcia’s situation and wrote,

"This is disgusting behaviour. Head up Caro," he wrote.

Several fans later criticized Kyrgios and accused him of double standards, highlighting his recent comments towards the ruling of Jannik Sinner's doping row.

"Maybe it’s time to look inward because your tweets helped bring a barrage of hate tweets toward Jannik Sinner," one fan said.
"Sorry but I have to say this. Says the person that defames his colleague after being cleared by an independant court!" another wrote.
"You dont have the best track record when it comes to treating women with respect bro 😬 Maybe you should sit this one out," a fan said.

Here are a few more reactions from the fans,

"Nicky do you realize you take money from @espn and they have something called @ESPNBET?" A fan chimed in.

A fan called out Kyrgios for his frequent displays of anger on the court in the past and wrote,

"You weren’t the epitome of grace on the court bro," the fan commented.

Players such as Coco Gauff, Bianca Andreescu, and Frances Tiafoe have also highlighted the issue of social media abuse in the past.

Nick Kyrgios recently said he stands by everything he has posted about the ruling on Jannik Sinner's anti-doping row on social media. The Aussie voiced his dissatisfaction, noting that players like Simona Halep have faced lengthy suspensions while Sinner has not.

Halep was suspended for four years after she breached the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme (TADP). She tested positive for Roxadustat at the 2022 U.S. Open.

Speaking via "Fox Sports", Kyrgios reasserted his stance on the situation and said,

"Everything I put on social media I have to stand up for. I’ve seen many of my friends go through doping things and being suspended. We’ve seen players like (Simona) Halep and everyone and it seems like every time one of these things comes up, there’s always a different process for different players." Nick Kyrgios said on commentary ( via Fox Sports).

While Kyrgios is commentating in the US Open for ESPN, Sinner, who is competing, defeated Mackenzie McDonald in the first round and will aim to improve his impressive 49-5 season record when he faces Alex Michelsen in the second round on Thursday, August 29th.
