Himanshu Bhatia and Nitten Kirrtane registered contrasting victories to progress in the men’s 45-plus singles at the Jayant Roy Memorial Mumbai ITF Tennis Tournament on Sunday.
Top seed Bhatia and second seed Kirrtane entered the third round of the tournament played at the MSLTA and Woodehouse Gymkhana in Mumbai on Sunday.
Bhatia had a fight on his hands against Gopal Soni before winning 6-4, 6-3. Kirrtane, meanwhile, stroked his way past Deepak Patil 6-0, 6-1 without much ado.
Austrian Christian Wind, the top seed in the men’s 55-plus singles, was in sublime form, brushing aside Dharamvir Singh 6-2-6-2 to enter the quarter-finals. Also advancing to the last eight was former international Bhushan Akut, who powered past Gulabrao Fulzele 6-4, 6-1.
