He then entered the Australian Open as the 13th seed and survived a five-set thriller against Zhang Zhizhen following which he clinched a statement win against the dangerous Matteo Berrettini in four sets.
Holger Rune was 2-4, 15-30 down in the fourth set with Kecmanovic up 2-1 in sets. However, the Dane pulled off a massive comeback to clinch the five-setter 6-7(5), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in three hours and 27 minutes. Awaiting him in the next round is World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who is also the defending champion.

He kicked off his campaign with a straight-set win against Nicolas Jarry following which he took out home favorite Tristan Schoolkate in four sets. The Italian decimated Marcos Giron 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the second week of the Australian Open.
