Holger Rune revealed in a press conference at the Italian Open that he has squashed the beef with Casper Ruud.

Holger Rune was then told to "grow up" by Casper Ruud, who was advised to "show some respect" by his opponent after the two fought out a tense French Open quarterfinal in 2022, with the Norwegian winning 6-1, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.

The Scandinavians didn't meet in an official match until the 2023 Italian Open, where Rune defeated Ruud in the semifinals 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-2. During the press conference after the match, Rune revealed that there was no bad blood between him and Ruud.

"Yeah, we didn't practice actually. All good. I mean, we obviously talk after French Open and we're good," the Dane said.

The match at the Italian Open wasn't as controversial as the one in Paris last year, but many did label Holger Rune's medical timeout in the middle of the second set controversial. It changed the shift of the entire duel, with Rune making a comeback from that point on.

Ruud was asked about the allegedly 'tactical' timeout at his press conference in Rome. He didn't use to opportunity to attack his opponent, and neither did Rune say anything bad about the Norwegian, praising him instead.

"I have zero problem with him. He's a great player. He's showing some of his best tennis, especially on clay. He's tough to play. I respect him a lot. I'm happy to finally get my first win over him," Holge Rune revealed.

Casper Ruud, the eventual finalist of the 2022 French Open, beat Holger Rune in the quarterfinals, but that wasn't the talking point of the media and fans after the match.

The match featured several controversial incidents, including a few outbursts from Rune. One incident, in particular, wherein he was seen shouting "forlade (leave)" at his player's box, caught the attention of tennis fans on social media.

Rune, frustrated after having lost a game to the Norwegian, began shouting at his box, where his mother Aneke Rune was present. The Danish youngster could be heard yelling: "If you're not helping, leave."

Rune's mother, who accompanies him on the tour and had been present in all of his French Open matches that year, was spotted leaving the arena during the changeover soon after her son's outburst.

The Danish superstar later denied screaming at his own mother.

"I love my mother very much, I did not kick her off the track. When I’m frustrated I need to be left, I can’t be listening to my mother and my coach. I wasn’t specifically looking for her to leave, in the match with Stefanos also she left. She knows how to give me peace," Holger Rune stated at the time.
